NDC Demands Justice for Victims of Herdsmen Terror Attacks in Niger Delta
18th April 2025 – The Niger Delta Congress (NDC) has issued a scathing condemnation of the brutal attacks by marauding herdsmen in the Middle Belt and southern regions of Nigeria, demanding immediate justice for the victims and the arrest of Garba Abdullahi Muhammad, Chairman of the Coalition of Fulani Registered Organisations (COFERO).
In a statement released today, the NDC highlighted the relentless violence that has plagued the country, with the most recent attacks in Enugu and the Middle Belt claiming over 150 Christian lives. The group described the killings as a “cold-blooded slaughter of innocent men, women, and children,” labelling the assault on collective humanity a “blatant desecration of life.”
Expressing solidarity with the affected communities, the NDC voiced its “hearts bleeding for the unimaginable losses” and denounced the “cowardly silence” of those who, weeks ago, threatened fire and brimstone but now cower in “shameful muteness” as entire communities in the Middle Belt and Southern Nigeria face destruction. The group also pointed to a “betrayal of conscience” by those complicit in the violence, noting the innocence of the victims as a “fuel for division, and a green light for murderers to continue their reign of terror.”
The NDC specifically called out Garba Abdullahi Muhammad, who, during a press conference in Kaduna on 8th April 2025, issued ultimatums for peace under the guise of victimhood. The group accused him of attempting to shield perpetrators and perpetuate violence, slamming the Federal Government for its “complicity” and “incompetence” in addressing the crisis. The NDC argued that the government’s failure to act decisively has cost lives and undermined its duty to protect Nigerians.
In a rallying cry, the NDC urged the government to take decisive action, warning that Nigeria’s diverse peoples must unite with strength and resolve to confront the crisis. “The patience of the Middle Belt and other Christian communities in Southern Nigeria is not infinite,” the statement read. “We demand action and justice, not excuses.”
The statement was signed by Mudiaga Ogboru, National Spokesperson for the NDC, who reiterated the organisation’s commitment to advocating for the rights and safety of all Nigerians.
