Senator Natasha Akpoti Accuses Senate President Akpabio of Sexual Harassment

In a shocking revelation, Senator Natasha Akpoti has accused Senate President Godswill Akpabio of sexual harassment, alleging that he made inappropriate advances towards her during his birthday celebrations in 2023.

Taking to the media, Akpoti likened her experience in the Senate to that of a student being deliberately failed for refusing to cooperate with a lecturer. "What I have been going through in the Senate is like a student continuously being failed for not cooperating with a lecturer," she stated.

Detailing her allegations against Akpabio, Akpoti recounted an incident that allegedly took place at his residence. She claimed that during his birthday celebrations, Akpabio held her hand, showed her around the house, and asked if she liked what she saw. "He told me that both of us can enjoy the house together," she revealed, strongly insinuating that he made unwanted advances.

According to Senator Natasha @NatashaAkpoti
"We moved to his house in Uyo, and he showed me and my husband around, with my husband walking behind us. He asked if I liked his house, and I told him yes—that the rooms looked nice. Then he said, Now that you are a senator, I have to create time for us to come and have quality time here.'"

Natasha went on "I attempted to raise a motion regarding corrupt practices at the Ajaokuta Steel Company. I listed this motion five times, and it was only on the sixth occasion that it appeared on the order paper. When I approached the Senate President to enquire why my motion had been repeatedly stepped down, he told me that as the Chief Presiding Officer of the Senate, he could offer me a great deal of opportunity if I took care of him and made him happy".

These revelations are expected to spark intense debate within political circles and beyond, as calls for accountability and transparency in leadership especially in the Nigerian Senate continue to gain momentum.

Neither Akpabio nor his office has responded to the allegations at the time of reporting.

This development adds to a growing list of concerns about power dynamics and misconduct in Nigerian politics...
