Helicopter Crash Pilot Identified as Navy SEALs Veteran Sean Johnson

New York, 11 April 2025 – The pilot of the helicopter that crashed into the Hudson River yesterday has been named as 36-year-old Sean Johnson, a decorated Navy SEALs veteran.
Johnson, who served in the U.S. Navy as a SEAL and gunner’s mate, was at the controls of the Bell 206 helicopter when it went down. Just weeks prior, on 27 March, he shared a video on his Facebook page, capturing himself flying over Lower Manhattan in the same type of aircraft. His profile also revealed he had previously flown in Chicago.
After leaving the military, Johnson pursued a varied career, including roles on a television programme and as a bodyguard for celebrities, according to his wife, Kathryn. She noted that despite his diverse pursuits, his true passion was always aviation. “He always wanted to fly,” she said.
Authorities are still investigating the cause of the crash. No further details about the incident have been released at this time.
