Nigeria Police Extradite Murder Suspect from Qatar
Abuja, Nigeria – 19 April 2025
The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has successfully extradited Benjamin Best Nnayereugo, alias "Killaboi," from Doha, Qatar, to face murder charges in Nigeria. The suspect, accused of killing 21-year-old Lead City University student Miss Augusta Oseodion Onuwabhagbe, was returned to Nigeria in the early hours of Saturday, 19 April 2025, following coordinated efforts with the Ministry of Justice, INTERPOL, and Qatari authorities.
The extradition stems from a petition by the victim’s family, lodged on 29 September 2024. Investigations revealed that Nnayereugo murdered Onuwabhagbe on 13 July 2023 at his residence in Ajah, Lagos. After the crime, he fled Nigeria and released an online video claiming responsibility, which authorities described as a tactic to mislead investigators.
Declared wanted by the Lagos State Criminal Investigation Department on 13 October 2023, Nnayereugo became the subject of an INTERPOL Red Notice. He was briefly arrested in Freetown, Sierra Leone, on 20 October 2023 under a false identity but escaped during a prison break on 26 November 2023. The suspect continued to evade capture, using forged identities across West Africa, East Asia, and the Middle East before settling in Doha, Qatar, in January 2025. There, he operated under the alias “Toure Abdoulaye” with a fraudulent Guinean passport.
Through advanced biometrics and international cooperation, INTERPOL’s National Central Bureau in Abuja, alongside its Doha counterpart, confirmed Nnayereugo’s identity, leading to his arrest by Qatari authorities in February 2025. An extradition request, processed through Nigeria’s Federal Ministry of Justice, was approved, enabling his repatriation.
Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, praised the collaboration between INTERPOL, the Attorney-General of the Federation, the Qatari government, and the Nigerian Embassy in Qatar. He reaffirmed the NPF’s commitment to ensuring diligent prosecution and justice for all Nigerians.
