Zelenskyy Outlines Ukraine’s Peace Proposals in Talks with U.S. Team
Kyiv, 11 March 2025 – Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has revealed details of a significant meeting between Ukrainian and American delegations in Saudi Arabia, describing the talks as “good and constructive.” In a statement released on social media, Zelenskyy highlighted Ukraine’s unwavering commitment to achieving peace “from the very first second of this war” and outlined key proposals put forward during the discussions.
The meeting, which lasted most of the day, saw Ukraine present three core demands aimed at de-escalating the ongoing conflict with Russia. These included “silence in the skies”—a halt to missile strikes, bombings, and long-range drone attacks; “silence at sea”; and robust confidence-building measures. Among the latter, Zelenskyy emphasised the urgent need for the release of prisoners of war and detainees, both military and civilian, as well as the return of Ukrainian children forcibly deported to Russia.
Zelenskyy expressed gratitude to U.S. President Donald Trump for facilitating what he described as a “constructive conversation” between the two teams. He noted that the American side showed understanding of Ukraine’s position and was receptive to its proposals.
In a notable development, the U.S. delegation went further, suggesting a bold initial step: a 30-day interim ceasefire covering not only air and sea operations but the entire front line. Zelenskyy confirmed that Ukraine welcomes this proposal, viewing it as a positive move towards peace. “We are ready to accept this proposal and take this step,” he said, adding that the ball is now in Washington’s court to persuade Russia to agree to the ceasefire. Should Moscow consent, the truce would begin immediately.
The Ukrainian leader reiterated his country’s long-standing desire for a swift and reliable resolution to the conflict, one that ensures war does not return. Today’s talks mark a potential turning point in diplomatic efforts, with both sides expressing cautious optimism about the prospects for de-escalation.
As the world watches closely, the success of this initiative now hinges on Russia’s response. For Ukraine, the proposed ceasefire represents a critical opportunity to alleviate the suffering of its people and pave the way for broader peace negotiations.
