Delta State College of Nursing Sciences Issues Query to Student Nurse for Unprofessional Conduct During First Lady's Visit

Agbor, Delta State – 27th March 2025

The Delta State College of Nursing Sciences in Agbor has issued a formal query to Nurse Osato Edobor, a student at the institution, following an incident of unprofessional behaviour during a high-profile visit by the First Lady of Nigeria, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, CON. The event, which took place on the 25th of March 2025, was part of the Renewed Hope Initiative aimed at supporting healthcare education in the region.

According to the official letter dated 27th March 2025, signed by Mrs Ebyodaghe Rita Ogonne, Provost of the Delta State College of Nursing Sciences, the incident occurred during the First Lady’s visit to the Dome Event Centre in Asaba. The event was organised to distribute 10,000 Professional Kits (including Crocs and Scrubs) to midwives in each geopolitical zone of Nigeria’s South-South region. During the visit, Nurse Osato Edobor was found engaging in what the college described as a "malicious act of recording/singing and posting unofficial responses to songs" whilst the First Lady was present.

The college authorities noted that this behaviour was a direct violation of the institution’s standards, as outlined in the Student Handbook under disciplinary offences No. 8, Page 21. The letter emphasised that such conduct was particularly unacceptable given the significance of the event and the presence of a dignitary like the First Lady.

Nurse Edobor has been given 24 hours to submit a written explanation in triplicate, detailing why disciplinary action should not be taken against her for the incident.
As of the time of this report, Nurse Edobor has not publicly responded to the query, and it remains unclear what further actions the college may take if her explanation is deemed unsatisfactory.
