Senator Shehu Sani Condemns Killing of Nearly 100 in Bokkos
April 4, 2025
Former Nigerian Senator Shehu Sani has issued a scathing condemnation of the recent massacre of nearly 100 people in Bokkos, Plateau State, attributing the attack to Fulani terrorists. In a statement released earlier today, Sani described the killings as “sad, tragic, unfortunate, and condemnable,” lamenting the violent disruption of the relative peace that had been achieved under Governor Muftwang’s administration.
The attack, which occurred in the early hours of this week, has sent shockwaves through the state, reigniting fears of instability in a region that has endured over two decades of relentless conflict. According to local reports, armed assailants stormed villages in Bokkos, targeting civilians in a brutal assault that left scores dead and many others injured. Authorities have yet to release an official death toll, but community leaders estimate the number of casualties approaches 100.
“For over two decades, the state has not known peace,” Sani said in his statement. “And now, the relative peace achieved under Muftwang is violently disrupted.” The senator expressed deep sorrow over the loss of life, calling the incident a stark reminder of the persistent security challenges facing Plateau State. He urged the government and security agencies to act decisively, insisting that “the perpetrators must be brought to justice.”
Sani’s remarks come amid growing outrage from residents and civil society groups, who have criticized the federal and state governments for failing to curb the recurring violence in the region. Plateau State has long been a flashpoint for clashes between herders and farmers, often exacerbated by ethnic and religious tensions. The latest attack has heightened calls for stronger measures to protect vulnerable communities.
Paying tribute to the victims, Sani concluded his statement with a prayer: “May the souls of the deceased rest in peace.” He also appealed for unity in the face of adversity, emphasizing that the people of Plateau State deserve a lasting end to the bloodshed that has plagued them for generations.
Governor Muftwang has yet to issue an official response to the killings, though security forces have reportedly been deployed to the area to restore calm and investigate the attack. Meanwhile, Sani’s outspoken condemnation has added a prominent voice to the chorus demanding accountability and an end to the violence in Bokko
