Peter Obi Mourns Loss of Dedicated Supporter Zubairu Momoh
Lagos, Nigeria – Peter Obi, a prominent Nigerian politician and leader of the "Obidient" movement, has expressed his profound sorrow at the passing of Zubairu Momoh, a committed member of his political family. In a heartfelt statement released on 1 April, Obi shared the devastating news, reflecting on Momoh’s courage in the face of illness and his unwavering dedication to their shared vision for a better Nigeria.
Obi recounted his visit to Momoh in a Lagos hospital, where, despite his health struggles, the late supporter remained optimistic. "I vividly remember visiting him in the hospital in Lagos," Obi wrote. "Despite his struggles, he remained in good spirits, and I encouraged him to hold on to hope as we all prayed for his recovery." Tragically, Momoh succumbed to his illness, with his death occurring during the holy month of Ramadan, a time of deep spiritual significance for Muslims.
In his tribute, Obi acknowledged the pain of the loss but urged acceptance of "the divine will of the Almighty who alone gives and takes life." He extended his condolences on behalf of his family and the wider Obidient community to Momoh’s loved ones, particularly his wife, as well as all those grieving the loss of a man he described as a vital contributor to their cause. "Zubairu played a vital role in our collective struggle for a better nation, and his contributions will never be forgotten," Obi stated.
The politician concluded with a prayer for Momoh’s eternal rest and for strength for his family and friends. "May God Almighty grant him eternal rest and give his family, friends, and all who mourn him the strength to bear this irreplaceable loss. May God continue to protect and bless his family always," he wrote.
Momoh’s passing has struck a chord within the Obidient movement, a grassroots collective inspired by Obi’s leadership and his 2023 presidential campaign under the Labour Party. Supporters have taken to social media to echo Obi’s sentiments, sharing memories of Momoh’s dedication and lamenting the loss of a key figure in their ongoing efforts for national reform.
As of today, 2 April 2025, no further details regarding funeral arrangements have been disclosed. The Obidient family and Momoh’s loved ones continue to mourn, drawing solace from the legacy he leaves behind.
