Russian Missile Strike on Kryvyi Rih Claims Four Lives, Wounds Civilians
KRYVYI RIH, Ukraine – A targeted Russian missile strike hit the city of Kryvyi Rih, leaving a trail of destruction and loss, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky reported on Wednesday. The attack, which claimed the lives of four civilians, has been condemned as an act of terror, with emergency services rushing to the scene to assist the wounded and mitigate the aftermath.
According to President Zelensky, all necessary services are actively responding at the site of the strike, working to address the consequences of the shelling and provide aid to those affected. Several people were injured in the attack and are currently receiving medical assistance. "Tragically, four lives were claimed by this strike, all of them civilians," Zelensky said, extending his condolences to the families and loved ones of the victims.
The strike on Kryvyi Rih, a city in central Ukraine, underscores the ongoing violence that has plagued the country amid Russia’s military aggression. In his statement, Zelensky emphasized that such attacks are universally recognized as acts of terror. "Everywhere in the world, such strikes are called by the same name—terror," he said, urging the international community to take decisive action.
Zelensky called for increased pressure on Moscow to force Russia to abandon its campaign of war and terror, stating that the responsibility lies with Ukraine’s global partners, including the United States, Europe, and other nations. "What separates us all from at least a complete and unconditional cessation of strikes is the lack of Russia's consent to end the war, and only the world’s pressure can ensure such consent," he asserted
Zelensky also highlighted the urgent need for Ukraine to bolster its defenses, pointing to the strike as evidence of the necessity for more air defense systems and missiles. "All such Russian strikes prove that Ukraine needs a sufficient number of air defense systems and missiles to protect all people in Ukraine from Russian terror," he said. He noted that Ukraine is actively collaborating with its international partners to achieve this goal and expressed gratitude to those providing support. "We thank everyone who is helping us," Zelensky added. "We are grateful to everyone who understands that pressure on Russia and stable support for Ukraine are essential."
The attack comes as part of a broader pattern of Russian missile strikes targeting Ukrainian cities, further intensifying the humanitarian crisis in the region. As the war continues, Zelensky’s plea for global solidarity and military assistance underscores the dire situation faced by Ukrainian civilians caught in the crossfire.
Details about the full extent of the damage and the condition of the wounded remain limited as rescue and recovery efforts are ongoing. The international community has yet to respond formally to Zelensky’s latest appeal, but the strike is likely to renew debates over the level of support provided to Ukraine as it defends itself against Russian aggression.
